About this test
The Lyme Disease IgG & IgM Line Blot detects antibodies directed against specific proteins of Borrelia burgdorferi. It reports separate IgG and IgM line blot interpretations along with the individual antibody bands detected.
This test is intended primarily as a second-step evaluation when an initial Lyme antibody screening test has been positive or equivocal. It should not ordinarily be used by itself as the first or only test for suspected Lyme disease.
Results must be interpreted in the context of symptoms, potential tick exposure, the duration of illness, and prior Lyme testing. A positive antibody pattern provides supportive evidence but does not independently determine whether infection is active.
What can this test tell me?
This blood test reports separate IgG and IgM antibody patterns against Borrelia burgdorferi. It is intended for second-step testing after a positive or equivocal initial Lyme antibody screen, rather than as a standalone first test.

Common questions
What is the difference between Lyme IgG and IgM?
IgG and IgM are different antibody classes. Their meaning depends on symptom duration and the complete testing sequence. CDC advises disregarding a positive IgM result when illness has lasted more than 30 days. An isolated antibody band does not establish a diagnosis.
Does a positive result mean the infection is active?
Not necessarily. Lyme antibodies can persist for months or years, including after treatment. Antibody testing cannot establish cure; review the result with a clinician alongside symptoms and exposure history.
