About this test
The Lyme Disease Antibodies Modified Two-Tier Test evaluates antibodies associated with Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. It begins with a total antibody immunoassay. If the initial result is reactive, additional IgG and IgM antibody testing is performed automatically.
This test may be appropriate for people with symptoms compatible with Lyme disease or a history of possible tick exposure. Results should be interpreted together with symptoms, exposure history, and the timing of possible infection.
Lyme antibody testing is not recommended as routine screening for people without symptoms or suspected exposure. Antibodies may not yet be detectable during the earliest stage of infection, and a positive antibody result does not by itself establish whether an infection is currently active.
What can this test tell me?
This profile starts with a total Lyme antibody immunoassay. A reactive result triggers additional IgG and IgM immunoassays automatically. It supports evaluation when symptoms or possible tick exposure make Lyme disease a concern.
How should I prepare?

Common questions
Does two-tier testing mean two blood draws?
The testing steps can use the same blood sample. In this profile, the laboratory performs the additional antibody tests if the initial result is reactive.
Can an early negative result rule out Lyme disease?
No. Antibodies may not yet be detectable during the first weeks of infection. A clinician should assess symptoms and exposure and decide whether follow-up testing is needed.
Is this a routine wellness screening test?
No. Labcorp advises against screening the general population. Testing is intended for a clinical reason, such as compatible symptoms or suspected exposure.
