A blood test designed to evaluate ferritin, a marker of the body’s stored iron.
Ferritin can help assess iron stores and may be useful when evaluating possible iron deficiency, anemia, fatigue, weakness, hair thinning, heavy menstrual bleeding, restless legs symptoms, or follow-up after iron supplementation. Ferritin may also be affected by inflammation, infection, liver disease, and other conditions, so results should be interpreted in clinical context.
Best for: iron stores assessment, fatigue-related evaluation, anemia concerns, heavy menstrual bleeding, possible iron deficiency, or monitoring response to iron supplementation.
Important: Ferritin is a useful iron-storage marker, but it can be elevated in inflammation or other medical conditions. Results should be interpreted in clinical context.
